Bad Decisions

When I saw this color online, I thought it was a good idea. I wanted green for my gender neutral room, but not too dull because we're going with black furniture to match the rest of our furniture. Well, it's not dull! (Oh, and those of you who haven't seen this color in person, ask those who have. It's brighter than it looks in the picture!) And in all fairness to myself, (or maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better), it's a pretty color. But if you've ever looked at nursery themes/bedding, there is NOTHING at Babies R Us that goes in this room! Not there, not Target, not Wal-Mart or Old Navy...the only place I found something pretty to go in this room was on some organic nursery website. It shouldn't even be mentioned how much that bedding set cost!

Needless to say, the green is gone. A few coats of primer and some new paint has begun to put this color behind me. Some very trustworthy moms gave me the advice to pick out my bedding first, then go for a color. So that's what we did. This is the blanket we found that we will build the nursery colors around. Here's a better pic.

Imagine that, greens and browns!! So then it was off to Home Depot. We wanted 3 of the walls to be a caramel-like color, and one wall to be a darker brown. We had 2 sets of browns picked out and our horrible green swatch to get some guidance from the paint experts as to how to cover up something so bright. She took one look at the green color and instantly remembered me. She gave me that look of, "I knew you'd be back." Then she brings over her friend to laugh about what I had picked out in the first place!!! Doesn't she see that I'm pregnant and emotionally fragile?!? So obviously, I start to cry, head down trying to hide my instability. Chris sees, and like a good father-to-be, suggests we take a walk. So we're walking through Home Depot, and I'm crying, and all these burly men are looking at me like, "what? I came here to get away from that!"

I know this is a long story, but I will end it with this. My husband saved the day by picking between the 2 sets of browns, as I no longer trusted my own judgment. I have to finish the trim on 2 more walls, and then we will be ready for carpet. Let's hope that goes a lot smoother!!

  3. My poor girl! It's interesting how other women treat each other. There should be a female code of ethics.

  5. My favorite color is green so I love both colors. Just think of this as more of an adventure than just using pink or blue which would be easy. When my grand baby gets old enough, you can tell the story of how much love and tears was put into the nursery.

    Peace & love always, Mom

  7. stupid paint lady making you cry. i had a lady at the grocery store who couldn't use my discount card b/c my girls had pushed the buttons on the debit card slider thing and she made a BIG deal out of making sure to tell me and everyone else that the kids had played with it and it was messing up b/c of that. I finally started to cry and told her she was being a jerk. she was embarassed and the manager was standing there, so I ended up with the managers discount on my groceries. But I don't think I will be going back to that store!! Can't wait to see the room put together!
