8. Heroes

Of course today I am ever so thankful to all of the men and women who serve or have served in service of our country. We have many people in our family to thank: my mom and dad, Chris' dad, my grandfather, Chris' uncle, and Chris' brother Jeremy, who is currently serving in the Marines.

I would also like to mention a very special hero. Matthew Freeman was a great guy that I grew up with. I lost touch with him and most of my classmates soon after high school, since I moved away shortly after graduation. I learned of his sacrifice only recently. He died for his country overseas last year. Even though it's been years since I've seen him, his death was very hard to take. I regret not finding out when it happened. I would have done anything to go home and be at the parade that was held in his honor.

Matt saw a great need for the children in Afghanistan. Most of you never knew him, but I beg you to take a few minutes to visit this website and hear his story. Hear about the great work he is still a part of by leaving behind this great mission. And if you are able, please donate to help further the education of the children in Afghanistan. The Freeman Project

  1. I definitely remember the name Matt Freeman. I watched the video. What an inspiring young man. So sad. I will definitely be making a donation.

  2. Rachel,

Sorry you are just learning of Matt's death. It was quite the shocker for everyone. He had only been there for 2 weeks when he was shot. Lots of crazy and amazing stories to this ... He was definitely a great guy and I can say the gospel was shared at his memorial service.

Where are you at these days? Your family is beautiful. Hoping all is well.
